LOCATION AND GEOGRAPHY

STUDY IN FRANCE
France has more international students than any country except for the U.K. and
the U.S. The French higher education system is very accessible to international
students; admission requirements are in fact the same for international students
as for French students. Students from all over the world come to study in france.
France spends more per capita on education (20% of total budget) than many other
Western countries and has traditionally had high academic standards. The Organisation
for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) currently ranks the French education
system 25th in the world. France’s diversified network of more than 3,500 institutions
of higher learning, both public and private, and its internationally renowned research
centers deliver the best, educational programs. French Business Schools are considered
amogst the best in the world because of the teaching methodologies they adopt.
EDUCATION SYSTEM
The French higher education system offers both short and
long programs. Short programs, most of which last two or three years, essentially
prepare students for the industrial, commercial and service sectors. These programs
are offered in technical institutions attached to universities and in various specialized
institutions. They all lead to professional degrees, include academic as well as
technological coursework and involve internships in companies. Long programs are
offered by the universities and "grandes écoles” to enable the students to progress
to the highest levels of specialization in their subject area (research). French
universities and other educational institutions do not distinguish between international
students and French students. Both groups face identical admission and tuition requirements
and receive the same degrees.
WHAT IS GRANDE ECOLES ?
The Grande ecoles are uniquely French institutions, created in the early 19th century
in parallel to the university system; they are extremely selective and offer education
of a very high standard. There are over 300 Grande Ecoles in France covering different
subject areas. The fee structure can sometimes be higher but students benefit from
smaller class sizes, better support systems and excellent networks (alumni companies
and international partners). Most programmes are taught in French, although more
higher education institutions are now offering courses in English. Entry requires
appropriate French-language proficiency. Some students may need to sit a French
language test or undertake a French-language course. Enrolments should be made no
later than September.
REQUIRED TESTS
IELTS with score of band 6 is mandatory to secure the admission in France.
